Dance production by Paula Rosolen / Haptic Hide about techno as an art form and social phenomenon.
With countless beats, techno drives up the pulse of global club and protest cultures, and in Paula Rosolen's new work it becomes the hypnotic engine of a large choreography. Together with six dancers, Rosolen delves into the development of this unique music between art and social phenomenon.
Emerging from decades of transatlantic cultural exchange, techno has given voice and expression to marginalized communities, sparked scientific experimentation, and influenced the avant-garde through technological and cultural revolutions. Techno stood as an Afro-futurist expression for the Black community in Detroit and for liberation and reunification when the Berlin Wall fell. Rosolen's piece follows techno's various existences, from the indeterminate DIY landscape of 1980s electronic music to the globally recognized genre of the early 1990s. Full of energy and hypnotic power, the performance surrenders to the pull of techno, which has changed the world beyond the dance floor.
