In Orchids, three male dancers take us on a search for utopian forms of masculinity. Along with their shells, they also drop the expectations of what ‘real’ men should be like: tough, strong, invulnerable. Naked, with groping movements, they develop a language of gentleness and compassion. A new form of intimacy emerges between them, in which their bodies become a catalyst for desire and dreams. Léonard Engel shows how radical tenderness can be in his new work, which was created from conversations and guided improvisation.
