Paula Rosolen

Choreographer, Artistic Director

In her choreographic pieces, Paula Rosolen explores the intersection of dance, performance, music and theater, drawing a line between the arts and a more universal vision of dance inherent in popular culture and everyday life. She always looks at her themes from a different angle and deliberately places them in a different context.

In "Aerobics! - A Ballet in 3 Acts" (2015), for example, she investigated the unique phenomenon of fitness training developed for the US Air Force, which became a worldwide form of exercise. For this work, she was awarded first prize in the international competition "Danse Élargie", organized by the Théâtre de la Ville in Paris and the Musée de la Danse in Rennes. She was also invited to the German Dance Platform 2016.

In her works "Puppets" (2016), "PUNK‽" (2018), "FLAGS" (2020) and "16BIT" (2022), she continues to focus on peripheral themes in dance with universal relatability.

Her works have been performed at deSingel Arts Campus in Antwerp, Théâtre de la Ville in Paris, Theaterfestival Basel, Musée de la Danse in Rennes, Festival Paris l'été, Espace 1789 in Saint Ouen/Paris, Schwere Reiter, Centro Cultural de la Cooperación in Buenos Aires, among others, DPAC Kuala Lumpur, BE Festival in Birmingham, Künstlerhaus Mousonturm in Frankfurt, Tanzhaus NRW, HELLERAU - European Center for the Arts, TD Berlin, Sophiensæle in Berlin, Stadttheater Gießen, ZKM Karlsruhe, Museum Wiesbaden, Kampnagel in Hamburg, Cologne Opera and Dance New Air Festival in Tokyo.

In addition to these performances, Rosolen has held residencies at the K3 Center for Choreography in Hamburg, at Workspace Brussels, at the Villa Kamogawa of the Goethe Institute in Kyoto and at the Saison Foundation in Tokyo.
