Diego Tortelli & Miria Wurm
Dancer & Dramaturg
“Tortelli commands an extraordinary aesthetic, creating his pieces with incredible explicitness and thoroughness of detail, and with Wurm by his side they make a formidable team.”
Alison Kent about “GOD’s FORMULA”, Dance Europe
Since 2018, choreographer Diego Tortelli and dramaturg and production manager Miria Wurm have been developing independent dance projects in the free scene, distinguished by a clear yet complex visual language and aesthetic, both in terms of choreography and the content and realization of the works. Incorporating modern technologies and scientific theories, they create contemporary dance pieces that reflect their personal perspective on the here and now.
At the center of each piece is Tortelli’s highly distinctive choreographic style, which, much like a game of Tetris, breaks the body down into its individual parts and joints and repeatedly reassembles them around a fixed point—the torso—in geometric patterns that are sometimes surreal and playful, sometimes architecturally rigid. This reveals the body in both its beauty and virtuosity, as well as in its fragility and brokenness, bringing traces of memory to light in a kind of poetic abstraction.
