Gaetano Posterino

The dance artist Gaetano Posterino, who grew up in Italy, completed his training on scholarship at the National Ballet School of Canada in Toronto. After a 27-year career as a soloist and principal soloist with internationally renowned ballet companies in Europe, North and South America, he increasingly devoted himself to choreographic work.

Since 1995, Posterino has created works for ballet, dance theatre, opera, film, and interdisciplinary formats. As resident choreographer and artistic director, he shaped the Hessisches Staatsballett Wiesbaden, the Augsburger Ballett, and the International Dance Theatre Reutlingen over many years. Guest engagements have taken him to numerous theatres and dance companies in Germany and abroad. With the Posterino Dance Company, founded in 2002, he produces his own works, which have been presented on international stages in Germany, Europe, Canada, and the USA.

His choreographic output now includes more than 70 works for 19 ensembles, including full-length narrative ballets, dance theatre pieces, installations, operas, films, and works for smaller casts. His works are characterized by a distinctive contemporary movement language that combines technical precision with emotional expressiveness and draws on literary, performative, and social impulses. This results in multi-layered works that bring together different perspectives and narrative forms of contemporary dance. Posterino also works as a lecturer and juror at international dance competitions. For his work as a dancer and choreographer, he has received fourteen international awards to date.
