Kathrin Knöpfle
Performer, Choreographer, Visual Artist
Kathrin Knöpfle works as a performer, teacher, choreographer and visual artist.
She completed her first training as a sculptor at the vocational school for wood sculpting in Munich. During this time, she developed her first solo dance works. She then trained at the TIP Bewegungsart School for Dance, Improvisation and Performance in Freiburg im Breisgau.
Since 2013, she has been working as a freelancer for various national and international choreographers, including Dali Touiti, Allora & Calzadilla, Alexandra Pirici, Urte Gudian, Jérome Bel, Rosalie Wanka, Stephan Herwig, Judith Sanzches Ruiz, Marie Nüzel, Eva Baumann, Doris Uhlich and Ludger Lamers. She has been a permanent member of the Swiss dance company Anja Gysin since 2014.
With the help of working grants from the City of Munich and Dis-Tanz-Solo, she has been working on her own projects with increased focus since 2022.
The research for MOTHER TONGUE deals with topics of migration, family imprints and intergenerational traumas and is the artistic biographical reappraisal of her family history. In January and February 2023, she traveled to the Philippines with a documentary film team and collected material. Selected film excerpts were shown in the event "TRACING MOTHER LINES" as part of the event series #sieinspiriertmich, which is sponsored by the City of Munich.
In her own (research) works, the disciplines of visual and performing arts meet and create creative objects/spaces at the interface of movement theater, dance and installation. Together with Marie Nüzel, she is currently working on various issues of sustainability in art.
