Johanna Richter
Choreographer, Director, Coach, Lecturer
Her choreographic style tells human stories. Central to her work is the interplay between acting and dance, the development of distinct characters, and a strong narrative arc. Her dance-theatre works are explicit invitations to a diverse, multicultural audience, who can find themselves reflected in the universal experiential space of the theatre.
She trained at Iwanson International. In parallel, she completed a master’s degree in theatre and dance studies at LMU Munich and has since worked as a freelance choreographer for stage, film, and television.
She has repeatedly been invited to international choreographer competitions and has received project funding for productions created in cooperation with the Residenztheater and the Schauburg.
From 2012 to 2017, she was Choreographer in Residence with her own company at Schauburg Munich; since 2017, she has been back on the independent scene and touring with her productions.
She has held a permanent teaching position in movement at the Otto Falckenberg School since 1994.
In 2009, she initiated an artistic sponsorship project, the Helden project for students with a migration background, in collaboration with the association „mitSprache e.V.” and as a co-production with the Schauburg. Together with Volker Michl, she created dance theatre with students for ten years.
In 2016, together with Birgitta Trommler, she initiated HIER=JETZT – Platform for Contemporary Dance in Munich. It has taken place annually ever since and is unique in Germany as a form of support for emerging artists.
