Kathrin Knöpfle

KATHRIN KNÖPFLE is a performer, choreographer, educator, and visual artist. After training as a wood sculptor at the vocational school for wood carving in Munich, she completed her training in dance, improvisation, and performance at TIP in Freiburg. Since 2013, she has worked independently in the international freelance dance and performance scene and has appeared in productions by Dali Touiti, Allora & Calzadilla, Alexandra Pirici, Jérôme Bel, and Doris Uhlich, among others. For more than ten years, she was a permanent member of Anja Gysin’s company in Switzerland.

Since 2022, she has increasingly developed her own artistic works, including the outdoor performance NATURKREISLAUF, the short dance film INTO THE BLUE, and her debut MOTHER TONGUE. At the center of her work are the body as a storehouse of memory, as well as questions of origin, nature, and sustainability. Her practice moves at the intersection of visual and performing arts. She is also the protagonist and co-director of the documentary MOTHER LINES, which emerged from her long-term artistic research and deals with family memory, migration, and transgenerational influences. The film was supported by FFF Bayern.
